Mental Health Awareness Month: OPEN HOUSE 2017!

14/10/2016

Now that we had settled into our new warm and welcoming rooms, we thought we'd open our doors and invite our Hopscotch & Harmony families in for a night of information and socialising! School teachers, kinder teachers, doctors, nurses, other psychologists and allied health therapists including Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists joined us, as well as plenty of mums, dads and children!

Honouring Mental Health Awareness week, we wanted to break down the barriers to getting help and support for emotional and behavioural difficulties. Our Client Relationship Team members welcomed our guests and gave frequent guided tours of the practice.

In each room a psychologist gave a mini-presentation on topics including autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, mindfulness and social skill development. Our Speech Ease Speech Pathologists also presented on language development in children.

Everyone had the opportunity to chat with our team members and ask plenty of questions about mental health, how to access the services of a child psychologist or speech pathologist and what can be gained by reaching out and seeking support.

We all enjoyed a range of food and drinks and one lucky person was fortunate enough to win our door prize. No one went home empty handed as goody bags were handed out to each attendee.

A number of people stayed on for our booked out seminar How to Help Children with Anxiety. Practical strategies were presented and attendees left with a greater understanding of what child anxiety is, mistakes parents make and the most useful ways to help when a child is worried and feeling anxious.
