Our Approach to Autism Assessments
Our approach to autism assessments is thorough, compassionate, and tailored to each individual's needs. We recognise that every person is unique, so we take the time to understand your specific concerns, history, and experiences.
Our Autism assessment process typically includes:
- Diagnostic Interview (2hr): Structured conversations with the individual and, where appropriate, family members to explore social interactions, areas of strength and challenge, and communication patterns, with a focus on understanding and valuing the unique ways in which the individual experiences the world.
- Standardised Testing (2hr): A series of evidence-based tools and questionnaires to evaluate cognitive, social, and adaptive functioning.
- Autism Observational Assessment (1-2 hr): We use the MIGDAS and the ADOS-2
- Feedback and Recommendations (1hr): A comprehensive Autism diagnostic report detailing the findings, along with practical recommendations for support, intervention, or further evaluation. The feedback session and report are usually ready 5 weeks after the Autism assessment is completed.
PROCESS
- Book Here to request an assessment.
- If you have a referral please email it to [email protected]
- On receipt of your Booking Request form and your referral (if you have one), you will be emailed a quote
- On acceptance of the quote we will offer you appointment times.
- The initial payment of $350 is paid by credit card at the time of booking.
- We commence the assessment by emailing initial online forms and links to diagnostic rating scales to you (and your child's educator for child clients).
REFERRALS & REBATES
- A paediatrician or child psychiatrist referral is required for children under 18 years.
- Medicare rebates apply for individuals under 25 years old who are referred by a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist. The rebate for each session is $96.65 (for child assessments, the rebate only applies for the two sessions the child attends).
ADDITIONAL PSYCHOLOGY ASSESSMENT
- While we endeavour to complete the Autism assessment within the allocated time, in complex cases this is not always possible. It is important to be confident in our diagnostic decision so extra sessions, assessment measures and fees may be involved. The fee is $260 for each additional hour.
LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT - Child Clients
- If your child has also been referred for a language assessment then a copy of this report is required prior to your psychology Autism assessment appointment. Therefore, your psychology Autism assessment should be booked for a date AFTER the language assessment has been completed and you have the report.
ON THE DAY
- The ADOS Assessment may or may not be conducted with the parent in the room, depending on which ADOS Module needs to be undertaken. Module 1, Module 2 and the Toddler Module require a parent/carer in the room (which is under the age of around 4 or 5 for most children).
- Bring a small snack
- Advise us in advance if you do not have a carer to look after your child during the parent/carer part of the assessment
- Bring any other reports that you have regarding the health and development of your child
