Educational Assessments
Educational assessments help identify the academic strengths and weaknesses of a student. ADHD
A comprehensive assessment for Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder includes a thorough developmental history, cognitive assessment, administration of behavioural scales, and possible a school observation. Before a diagnosis of ADHD is given our psychologists ensure any issues with sleep, nutrition, and parent education are addressed. For children who have experienced trauma it may be recommended that a trauma-informed intervention be completed before an ADHD diagnosis can be confidently given. We want to make sure any diagnosis is accurate so we are very thorough to make sure the behaviours and challenges are not best explained by another cause.
Behaviour Assessments
We offer a range of behavioural assessments to help understand young people better and to recommend appropriate interventions or further, more comprehensive, assessment. We use the BASC, Connors, Vineland, CBCL as needed, depending on the referral questions.
Giftedness Assessment
Early identification and appropriate educational responses to young gifted students increases the probability of future success. Being adequately challenged is likely to maintain a strong desire to learn and decrease the risk of social, behavioural, emotional, and/or educational problems.
Our giftedness assessment includes a review of your child’s cognitive, social, family and emotional history as well as a cognitive (IQ) assessment. The Gifted Rating Scales may also be administered to parents/carers and teachers. The rating scales offer flexibility that complements and extends information from the cognitive assessment.
