At Hopscotch and Harmony I take a warm and engaging approach to my clients, prioritising a positive rapport throughout my therapeutic work. I take pride in supporting children and adolescents presenting with social and emotional difficulties, anxiety presentations and challenging behaviours. I also assist parents and carers by providing parent education, counselling regarding their child’s presentation and behaviour management guidance.
My approach takes on frameworks including Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), play therapy and social thinking. I also conduct Cognitive, Academic and diagnostic assessments, including those for Autism Spectrum Disorder.
My special area of interest is working with young children with Autism. I enjoy supporting them in developing key life skills, increasing their understanding of themselves and others, and assisting those around them to increase their understanding of the individual’s behaviours and presentation.
I place high importance on understanding a client’s emotions and behaviours in relation to their environmental contexts and their relationships with others. I enjoy encouraging positive behaviours and effective coping strategies that are tailored to each person as an individual. I value creativity, imagination, personal differences, individuality and most of all acceptance and understanding. I enjoy working closely with children, adolescents and their families to help them through and beyond life’s challenges.
Throughout my career I have provided services to young people through individual consultations and within educational settings, supervised Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) programs for families of children with Autism, worked extensively in Early Intervention, provided workshops on behaviour management to parents, teachers and other small groups and have worked within the Department of Education. I am also an associate member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
